Carpets have been woven in Wilton for over 300 years. In the early 18th century two Flemish Huguenot weavers were brought to Wilton to improve local skills. The patent for the Wilton loom was registered in 1744. Axminster hand looms were brought in, in 1835 to run alongside the Wilton looms. Today, carpets are still woven on the site for customers at home and abroad, mainly for the commercial market.
